Our Document Library is a component that works to provide a selection of files that users can download. The files can be organised into categories, and below the categories into folders to any depth. Optionally, users can also upload files, which you can specify be subject to admin approval.
The files in the Library can be either stored locally on the web server, or they can be located elsewhere and identified by a URL. A thumbnail image can also be used, and the graphic file for this must be located somewhere to which a URL can point. Uploading of new files, however hosted, can be achieved through the front end interface. Alternatively, they can be uploaded using FTP and then linked into the website database.
Various techniques are provided to resist file leaching of locally hosted files. Without anti-leach, other webmasters are liable to find the URLs that link to your files and simply treat you as a free file server. Document Library can protect you from this in various ways - which is best will depend on your technical environment.
Document Library is flexible and caters for most "tricky" variations, such as file names that contain spaces or quote marks. It can automatically send a notification email about each new file upload, and uploaders can choose from a selection of icons for their files.
